Can Migraines Cause Blurry Vision? Upper Cervical Chiropractic in Temecula, CA

If you experience migraines, blurry vision, headaches, or dizziness, you may already know how frustrating the search for answers can be.

Many of the patients we see at Possibilities Chiropractic have been dealing with these symptoms for a long time. They have had exams. They have had tests. They have seen multiple health care providers.

And yet, they still do not feel like themselves. They often describe feeling like a watered-down version of who they used to be.They want to feel good again.

They want to get back to work, family, hobbies, travel, and the simple parts of life that migraines and visual disturbances have made difficult.

One question we hear often is:

Can a migraine cause blurry vision?

The answer is that migraines and blurry vision can occur together. For some people, blurry vision or another visual disturbance happens before the migraine begins. For others, the symptoms may appear in a different pattern.

Because blurry vision can have many possible causes, it is always important to speak with the appropriate medical provider, especially when vision changes are sudden, severe, new, or unusual.

But when migraines, blurry vision, headaches, and dizziness continue to show up together, it may also be worth looking at an area that is often overlooked: the upper cervical spine.

The Connection Between Migraines, Blurry Vision, and the Upper Cervical Spine

The upper cervical spine is the area at the very top of your neck.

When there is an issue with how this area is moving or functioning, things can become complicated. Symptoms may become more intense, and people can begin to experience several problems at the same time.

At Possibilities Chiropractic, we often see patients who have both migraine headaches and dizziness. Some also experience blurry vision or other visual disturbances.

These patients are rarely coming to us at the very beginning of their journey. Most have already been searching for answers for months or years.

That is why an upper cervical evaluation can be valuable. It gives us a chance to look closely at the mechanics of the upper cervical spine and the way the nervous system may be responding.

The goal is not to assume that every migraine or vision problem comes from the neck. The goal is to determine whether there is an underlying upper cervical issue that may be contributing to the bigger picture.

What Happens During an Upper Cervical Evaluation

When someone comes to our office with migraines, headaches, blurry vision, or dizziness, we do not treat the symptom as an isolated problem.

We begin with a detailed history.

We talk about previous injuries, car accidents, sports, work habits, hobbies, repetitive stress, and other experiences that may have affected the body over time.

We then use specific testing to better understand what is happening, which may include:

  • Digital range-of-motion testing
  • Infrared Thermography
  • Specific upper cervical X-rays
  • An evaluation of the mechanics of the upper cervical spine
  • A closer look at nervous system function

At the end of the first visit, we are better able to see what may be happening and whether upper cervical care could be appropriate.

From there, care is based on a structured protocol. Visits are used to monitor whether the body is moving in the right direction, and adjustments are made only when necessary.

The aim is always to use as few adjustments as possible while helping the body function and heal as well as it can.

Is Upper Cervical Chiropractic a Quick Fix?

No. And that is important to understand.

Most people with long-standing migraines, headaches, blurry vision, or dizziness did not arrive at that point overnight.

The issue may have been developing long before the symptoms became impossible to ignore.

That means healing can take time too.

Some patients begin noticing changes within a few months. Others may need six months, a year, or longer. Every person is different, and no provider can guarantee a specific timeline or outcome.

On the flip side of this, there are those who get well quicker than expected.

But time is relative.

When someone has lived with severe symptoms for years, a year spent moving toward better health may be well worth it.

It is also common for people not to realize how much progress they have made.

I have had many patients tell me, “I do not know if I am getting better.”

Then we look back at their notes and see that their symptom levels have dropped significantly.

The body recalibrates. What once felt like a major improvement can begin to feel normal.

That is why tracking progress matters.

One Patient Who Refused to Give Up

One patient stands out in my mind.

I knew her name before she ever walked into our office because so many people had referred her.

She was one of those people who had been everywhere and done everything. She had been searching for answers for a long time, and she still was not getting the results she hoped for.

But she kept trying.

When she came in, she was skeptical. That is normal. Most people who have struggled for years are understandably cautious.

After her first adjustment, she went home.

When she returned for her follow-up visit, she brought her best friend with her.

She had noticed such substantial changes that she told her friend, who also experienced migraine headaches, about what had happened.

Her friend came in and essentially said, “You need to sign me up, and you need to start right now.”

More than a decade later, they are both still wonderful patients on regular wellness care.

They are raving fans, but I am a fan of them too.

They never gave up hope.

They kept trying.

They believed they were worth the effort.

And over time, the possibilities in their lives kept growing.

Could Upper Cervical Care Help With Migraines and Blurry Vision?

Upper cervical chiropractic care is not a guaranteed cure for migraines, blurry vision, headaches, or dizziness.

However, when symptoms continue despite other evaluations and treatments, it may be worth exploring whether the upper cervical spine is part of the problem.

That is especially true for people who have a history of:

  • Car accidents
  • Sports injuries
  • Falls
  • Repetitive stress
  • Physical work
  • Long-term neck tension
  • Head or neck trauma

The purpose of an evaluation is to gather information, not to make assumptions.

If there is an upper cervical issue, correcting it may help the body function more effectively. If there is not, that information matters too.

When Blurry Vision Needs Immediate Medical Attention

Blurry vision should not automatically be blamed on a migraine or neck problem.

Seek urgent medical attention when blurry vision is sudden, severe, affecting one eye, associated with weakness or numbness, accompanied by difficulty speaking, linked to a new or unusually intense headache, or otherwise feels alarming or different from your normal symptoms.

Once urgent causes have been ruled out, an upper cervical evaluation may be one additional step in understanding persistent migraines, headaches, dizziness, and visual disturbances.
