One of the things I love most about knee chest upper cervical chiropractic is also the thing that has asked the most of me over the years: the standard. When something truly changes your life, you don’t settle for a “close enough” version. Here’s a story from my own journey as both a patient and a doctor.
What is Knee Chest Upper Cervical Chiropractic?
At Possibilities Chiropractic in Temecula, we utilize the knee chest upper cervical technique, a gentle, precise, low-force method where you’re positioned on your knees and chest on a specialized table. This allows for targeted, light corrections to the atlas (C1) and axis (C2), the top two vertebrae in your neck that support your head and protect the nervous system.
Small misalignments here (from stress, injury, or daily life) can interfere with nervous system signals, contributing to issues like chronic headaches, migraines, neck pain, poor posture, and reduced resilience. The adjustment is never a “crack” or twist, it’s exact, data-driven (using scans and imaging when needed), and focused on restoring balance so your body can function and heal as designed.
Our patients have reported reduced migraine frequency/severity, steadier energy, better sleep, less tension, and greater overall well-being. It’s not about treating symptoms directly; it’s about supporting your nervous system the way it was meant to be. That’s what transformed my life after years of migraines; and it’s why I hold this standard so high.
When I First Opened My Practice as an Upper Cervical Chiropractor
In 1996, fresh out of chiropractic school, I opened my first office where I could be adjusted in the same upper cervical technique that had helped me so much, by a chiropractor about 20 minutes away. I was doing really well, but still rebuilding after years of headaches, and migraines. Regular upper cervical chiropractic care helped me maintain gains and keep progressing.
Then I Moved to Temecula in Southern California
When I relocated to Temecula in 2002, I discovered there wasn’t anyone nearby practicing the exact knee chest upper cervical technique I relied on.
So I made a decision that sounds a little wild now…
From 2002 to 2016, I flew to Northern California every single time I needed an adjustment. Every time.
How It Actually Worked
My husband (a skilled scanner) would scan me in the office every week or two. If scans showed I was out of alignment, I’d book a flight, often the next day, fly up early, drive to my chiropractor, get my upper cervical adjustment, and fly home the same day.
Some trips were smooth. Many weren’t. Over time, simple travel days became 12–14 hour marathons with delays, no rental cars, long shuttles, and plenty of “you’ve got to be kidding me” moments. It was expensive—averaging $800 per adjustment, sometimes $1,200 with flights and transport. (This doesn’t count rescheduling my own patients.)
So Why Would I Do That?
Because my health was worth it.
Because I am the asset.
Health isn’t just one part of life, it pours into every part. When my nervous system functions well, it impacts:
- The kind of mom I am
- The kind of business owner I am
- The kind of doctor I am
- The kind of human I get to be in the world
Staying well doesn’t just happen to you. It’s a choice. An investment. An “opt in.” Upper cervical chiropractic is just one of the ways that I and many of my patients invest in ourselves.
What Others Have Experienced with Upper Cervical Chiropractic
With 30 years since graduating chiropractic school and 23 years dedicated to the Temecula community (now at Possibilities Chiropractic, building on my earlier work as Tina M Gottlieb Chiropractic), I’ve witnessed similar transformations. Here are a few examples (shared with permission):
- A Temecula mom who battled daily migraines for years is now mostly migraine-free, with far less intensity when they do occur, and the energy to enjoy her family without constant pain.
- A local professional dealing with chronic neck stiffness and tension after an old injury reports steadier posture, no more dizziness, better sleep, and feeling more resilient day-to-day.
- Someone feeling “off” for years, tired, foggy, tense; noticed clearer thinking, reduced stress, and improved overall function after consistent gentle upper cervical care.
These reflect the benefits of upper cervical chiropractic: fewer migraines, less neck pain, better nervous system support, and more life reclaimed. Click here to read these amazing stories for yourself!
